PRAYER FOR CHURCH of ENGLAND

God has called us to pray FOR the Church of England in advance of the appointment of the next Archbishop of Canterbury. This is a critical time for the Anglican Church, and I am heartened by God’s desire to mobilise prayer in this way.
At this stage we want to ask you to pray:
-
Repentance for any sexual sin, known or unknown.
-
Repentance for anything that has taken God’s place.
-
For the panel who will be interviewing the candidates and making the appointment of the next Archbishop of Canterbury.
-
For great wisdom, and authority to stand on God’s Word and be led by His Spirit for the new ABC and those around them.
We encourage you to be led by Holy Spirit and to remember we are praying FOR the Church and not judging or pulling down. Proverbs 18:21 says “The tongue has the power of life and death.” So let us release LIFE as there is great power in us blessing what God is doing.
Here are some scriptures we are using:
A prayer from Paul to help us all. Ephesians 1:15-23 “For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God’s people, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.
I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.”
1 Timothy 2:1-4 “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made FOR all people — for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Saviour, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.”
Psalm 24 The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it: for he founded it on the seas and established it on the waters. Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place? The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not trust in an idol or swear by a false god. They will receive blessing from the Lord and vindication from God their Saviour. Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek your face, God of Jacob. Lift up your heads, you gates; be lifted up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and we hope you will join us in praying FOR the Church of England at this difficult time.
